Finance is usually not an interesting topic for most youths . But we have to remember that without a proper financial management we would end up struggling for the rest of our life. Its plan now or struggle later. So,I wish to share some of my knowledge on financial management which I’ve gained in the course of my study in this blog.
What is finance?
Well, simply said, finance is the art of managing money. But it is not just about money, in broader sense it is about managing all your assets. The major branches of finance are personal finance, corporate finance and public finance. We’ll focus more on personal finance in this blog.
Personal finance:
Personal finance revolves around an individuals income, expenditure and taxation. Its all about how you earn, how you spend and how much you pay for tax. Managing these three aspects is vital in an individuals life.
Income can come from various ways but it generally falls under two categories:
1) You work for money
2) Money works for you
The first one is the conventional way and the second one is the smart way. Most successful people are successful because they utilize both the methods efficiently.
There are a lot of ways to work for money. You can start a business, find a suitable job, etc..But how do you make money work for you?
It is actually by investing your money and gaining the interest generated. For example, lets say you have RM100000 right now and you wish to save the money in a fixed deposit account for the period of one year at an annual rate of 4%. At the end of the one year period you will get back your initial investment of RM100000 plus an interest of (RM100000*0.04) RM 4000, a total of RM104000. This is just an simple example. In the real world you can find many options of investment with various rate of return and risk. Choosing the right one can be a tedious task.
This part is just a short and simple introduction on the topic of finance. I’ll be adding more posts on this topic in the hope our Malaysian youths are more exposed on financial matters.
