Free vs Paid website hosting

Free web hosting is the most basic web hosting service that you can obtain and there are many free hosting companies that are available on the internet. We can easily google to find one.

Free hosting services are usually financed by advertisements on web sites that are hosted but paid website hosting will have no advertisements.

Since it is free, the web hosting services are extremely limited. If you get a free hosting service you will have ads on the top and the bottom of your web-site and depending on what your web-site is all about, it may not fit at all but for people starting out on the internet it may be the best option if you don’t have a lot of traffic or just a small site.

Besides that, the type of web domain that you receive when you get a free web hosting is a subdomain with the name that you pick (yourname.webhost.com) or a name in a directory (yourname.webhost.com). For example, if the name of your free host is freestanding.com,
Then your web domain would be yourbusiness.freestanding.com.

Obviously this will be not the case in a paid hosting service where you have to purchase your own domain or you might get a free domain as part of your hosting package.

As stated before, if you are a novice, free website hosting is the type of account that you would probably want to get but there are some shortcomings to free web hosting if you are looking for more options on the account.

First, many free hosting accounts do not support database management or what you would call in simple terms, putting data structures on the free web host side of their server. Databases are usually used for online data retrieval routines. Many of these free web hosting sites do not support a common package called mySQL which allows you to program queries into your web sites. So, you would not be able to set up a blog under a free hosting account.

They also don’t support multiple e-mail accounts. Most free web hosting service only gives you one email account and it’s usually a web based internet account. The host does not include modules for Flash Programming, PHP and Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (DHMTL).

However there is a free website hosting service which almost matches the features which are offered by a paid website hosting service.

The 000webhost.com offers free cPanel Web Hosting with PHP5/Mysql support and absolutely no advertising.
They can offer you a free web hosting package packed with advanced features for hosting & building professional dynamic websites. They provide secure free web space with all the web hosting tools you could possibly ever need.

Program that makes XP look like vista

In one of my earlier post, I mentioned about vista trasformation pack which was an all-in-one program that makes Windows XP look like Vista. Recently, I found another similar program.

It is Window Vista Inspirat by Rubenernesto in Deviantart.

This program almost completely makes XP look like vista.

Check it out if you are interested.

There are other smaller packs such as icon pack, vista sidebar, vista logon screen, vista boot screen and visual tooltip. For more info on these packs refer to this forum post at Lowyat.net.

Spy your sent emails

Most of us after sending an email might be wondering whether the intended recipient have or have not read our email. An easy solution to know whether it has been read or not is by placing a tracking system in the email.

One of such tracking system is SpyPig. It is an easy to use tracking system in which we just have to place a small tracking image in our email before activating the system. Once the email has been sent as usual, the system should be activated. That’s all and now you can know whether your recipient has read it or not. So simple isn’t it?

Moreover, this system is free to be used. Visit SpyPig.com for more details.

Send large files by email

Yahoo mail and Microsoft Hotmail offers only 10MB space for attachments in an email. Google goes one step further by offering 20MB of space for attachments in their Gmail. But is this space enough to send a group of images, documents or other files? I guess the answer is certainly no. Even a small group of 10 images might exceed the limit causing us to send several emails to the same recipient. So the question now is ‘how to email large files?’. Well, one of a simple solution I can see is to upload our files to an online account and then send a link which points to the location of the file to the intended recipient, so that the intended recipient can download them directly. This will eliminate the problem of sending and receiving large files in email. There are a few companies such as Pando, SendThisFile, Podmailing, and Send6 which offer such services. There offer premium services as well as free services too. Click here to read more about the above mentioned services.

One of such large files emailing provider which impresses me is Drop Send. Drop Send offers file sending up to 1GB and an online storage of 250 MB for free. Their free plan allows sending a maximum of 5 large files per month. Using their service is very simple, just select the files you want to send and enter the recipients email address. That’s all. Your recipient will have 14 days to download the files and after that the download link will expire. Other service providers only give 5 days.Hint: If you want to send an entire folder make sure you compress them first in order to make them appear as one file. Enjoy sending large files.
